“Eunice Duarte, 45, painter, designer, lawyer, prefers to use acrylic paint and dry pastel. Her paintings on canvas are a true reflection of the picturesque landscape of Brazil, and show the green plants, tropical fruits, Parrots, Araras, Tucanos and the countryside, as colourful as her sweet smile and her pretty face. She was born in the town of Recife, Pernambuco but today lives in Duisburg, Germany. Eunice was invited by the Brazilian embassy to paint the project “Brazil close to Paradise” for the International Tourist Fare, in Berlim, 2001/2002. As Eunice loves big dimensions her art was the perfect choice to be shown on the municipal buses, and it even rode around Berlin on a double decker for five months. As Eunice puts it, thus the people could discover the unusual beauty of Brazil. Among Eunice's countless exhibitions, her participation in the project "Mural Global" must be expressively mentioned, a project which dealt with subjects concerning the Agenda 21 (ecology), financed by the UNESCO. One of her main works is to be found at Duisburg's central station. In Brazil, too, she is famous for her paintings on murals and houses, and together with a German artist, she gave two murals to the town of Porto Alegre, pointing out the contrast between social problems and progress. Although Eunice feels at home in Germany, every day she paints large pictures which tell of her homesickness (“saudades”) of her land: a homesickness of the size of Brazil.”
